PBS won’t let a little isolation stop the station!

PBS Radio Festival 2020: You Can’t Stop The Music
Monday May 18 – Sunday May 31
#PBSRadioFestival #YouCantStopTheMusic

A pandemic can close our venues, ban our gigs and end our gatherings, but You Can’t Stop The Music!

Melbourne’s beloved radio station PBS 106.7FM is dusting off the dancing shoes for its annual Radio Festival from Monday 18 May to Sunday 31 May. This year’s festival refuses to let a little isolation get in the way of the biggest on air fundraiser party the FM bandwidth can handle. PBS is inviting listeners to put their money where their ears are and join or renew this May to keep the tunes rolling for another nonstop boogie around the sun.

Sadly, for the first time in Radio Festival history, PBS will not have a phone room full of passionate volunteers taking calls. Instead, the station will be asking people to join up online wherever possible at pbsfm.org.au. The good news is there’ll be no need to beat the peak on the phone lines, no scrambling for your credit card details on the run or lowering your voice on the tram. So notify the group chat and gather your loose change, because it’s never been more important to get behind your local community radio station and help keep the music alive.

“PBS has worked relentlessly to be there for our community during the COVID crisis and now we’re hoping people will be there for us, so we can make sure the music never stops. We know that a large number of our listeners are really doing it tough so we realise this is a big ask. But we also know that PBS listeners are beyond passionate in their love for music and what PBS stands for and will do what they can to help out in these extreme times.” – Adrian Basso, PBS General Manager

As always, there’ll be an absolute spread of prizes up for grabs for all the groovers and shakers who join or renew their PBS membership during this year’s Radio Festival and although the virtual celebrations don’t officially start until the 18th of May, all members who join up from Friday 1 May will go into the draw. Along with a plethora of daily prizes including merch packs, food and drink hampers, tickets, vouchers and more, the 2020 major prizes up for grabs are:

– A Primavera 125 i-GET Vespa in classic white with tan saddle trim valued at $6,990* ride away, courtesy of Peter Stevens Motorcycles
– A Clingan Guitar Tone handmade ‘Goldfinger’ electric guitar with SKB road case
– A Gett by Funk turntable with F7 tonearm and AT cartridge courtesy of Audiophile
– A Giro F2 bike with Ortleib accessories from My Ride Collingwood
– An entire year’s worth of PBS feature albums
– Plus exclusive prizes up for grabs for all performer, business, pet and junior memberships, as well as any new or returning Friends for a Decade and Friends for Life

All new and renewing members who join up during this year’s festivities will receive the coveted Sounds of Studio 5 Live digital album featuring exclusive live recordings from the likes of Surprise Chef, Pinch Points, On Diamond, Coda Chroma, Clowns, Dyson Stringer Cloher, Deline Briscoe, Karate Boogaloo, Ghost Note and many more. Plus, get ready to slide into your next zoom meeting in the latest PBS Radio Festival T-shirt designed by local artist Jase Harper. Simply join up as a passionate member or above and be the envy of all your half-dressed mates this iso.

“It’s no accident that Melbourne is the music capital of Australia and one of the world’s greatest music cities. I believe the main reason for this is the wonderful community radio we have in Melbourne – incredible stations such as PBS.” – Ian “Molly” Meldrum

“P.S. I never knew that PBS stood for Progressive Broadcasting Service – I thought it stood for Pretty Bloody Special. Melbourne is very lucky to have it.”

So get ready to blast the boundless energy and everlasting community spirit of PBS direct to your headphones, car speakers, kitchen benches and essential worksites this Radio Festival, and continue to enjoy the best emerging, independent, specialist and underrepresented music all year round. PBS – can’t stop, won’t stop!
